In a Cosmic Waiting Room You’re running out of time, oh You waited too long Linger in the lost and found and maybe Someone will bring you home We offered you a ride, but You wouldn’t get inside We pulled up in a white car You didn’t recognize Now, you’re in a cosmic waiting room Waiting for a sign I’m reading you the rites Ch The ancient Mother waving in the night Earth into water, water to fire Fire into air, then, out into Clear Light Running out of light So you lean toward the heat Digging in the lost and found and baby You find a set of keys The path is getting dark The window’s shrinking smaller The birds that ate your breadcrumbs Their shadows growing taller Now you’re in a cosmic waiting room Waiting for a guide I’m reading you the rites They sang it to you as a child Now it’s written on your arm It says you once was lost, but baby You was never found Throw the car in drive Floor it toward the orange sun The readings never reach you One gone Lights are turning blue The road is disappearing Seductive glowing green Draws you out into a clearing The Dancer-in-the-Flame Burning circles on the ground Light it up and run
2.
Cars crash, atoms smash It's a flash in the pan You can't plan the way that it ends Stars die, still lovers try to hold on When the fever's gone in a universe That wasn't built to last Ch More heat than light We can fight the feeling but we can never understand Parts fly, the worlds collide You tried suicide You can't plan the way that it ends In pavement and tires Lovers mired in unsettled accounts Friction mounts in a universe That wasn't built to last Br You want a love to last forever and ever and Never ever fade away But it's a random chance of planets in alignment and I can't find a beacon or a reason in my brain
3.
1st Verse Give it one more try We could move to the Moon or California Longing to leave tonight But at the edge of town I feel you shut down We’re newborn baby stars Frightened by our own hearts beating A flash in the sky Starting over one more time Ch Drive on tomorrow, drive all night 2nd Verse Give it one more day If I can make it ‘til Friday At least there’s a weekend Ain’t that a hell of a way For me to write this book when It took me so long So long to get this far Behind the wheel reincarnated Reading the rites Drivin right into the lights 3rd Verse Given one more play We could move to the Moon or maybe to Vegas It’s even money either way, and The reasons to go are beating the reasons to stay Your voice in my mind Says that even the Sun is dying A flash in the night Drive it right into the light

Sparkler Bombs Drinking warm beer In the basement of an unfinished house With nothing else to do, but Wrap some tape around a sparkler bomb and wait For the countdown Tonight we’ve got our mission Tonight we’ve got a plan Breaking bottles in the kitchen Looking for a light and Laughing in the dark Is it Wednesday night or Thursday night? I really can’t remember We gave up on waiting for something good Now we live for something bad, or Something big, or Something loud Something tragic It might make us proud To be remembered Is a guilty dream Wrap some tape around a sparkler bomb and wait For the countdown Tonight we’ve got our mission Tonight we’ve got a plan To light it up and run, light it up and run To light it up and run, to light it up and run Sparks explode across the common ground Fire sprays into the dead, dry August grass Light reflecting so directly For the moment you can see There’s no one here but you and me
5.
With nothing in our hearts With nothing in our hearts Another endless Wednesday night Spent laughing in the dark Cul de sac construction site Ignited raining sparks With nothing in our hearts With nothing in our hearts Vinyl siding Shadows dancing Starkly silhouette With nothing in our hearts Shaking hands a Camera phone Your brother and his girl Run behind the dumpster as Police lights start to swirl With nothing in our hearts We march tonight Hearts returning triumphant A victory parade Down the county fair midway Blurring lights from the Carnival rides like a Fountain of sparks Getting high On a Saturday night Behind the Fountain Inn bar We wander and wave Hearts returning triumphant They will never know or believe What we saw Blurring lights from the Carnival rides like a Fountain of sparks Getting high On a Saturday night Behind the Fountain Inn bar We wander and wave Hearts returning triumphant A victory parade Hearts returning triumphant

One Gone 03:14
Only one So small it can’t be all there is Pinholes in the blanket let in light, oh So far a million stars away The good ones never stay And you were gone You turned to me and said, "One gone" Relief was what you wanted all along I could hear it in my head then it was gone It was here and gone away, so far ahead When one is dead There’s another one Hundred more on the way Another one Just drive don’t try to find a way The good ones never stay And you were gone You turned to me and said, "One gone" Release was what you wanted all along I could hear it in my head then, it was gone It was here and gone away, so far ahead One gone away

…and as the last one fades I’m still standing on the shore You can take my hand or leave it In the sand Words wash out to sea Was it fireworks or lightning? I could swear that I saw something there In the shadow waiting Looking for a way back home Little bodies leaving here alone Wait for the next one to land Near the runway by the trees You can hear the highway sneak up From behind I thought it was you Was it fireworks or lightning? I could swear that I saw something there In the shadow waiting Looking for a way back home Little bodies leaving here alone A plane could never fly that far A car could never drive that fast Past the sun and the moon and the stars

I. Red and Blue Police Lights Red and blue police lights You know, I know you saw it, too Aliens or airplanes? You know, I know you heard it, too. You were standing right beside me or I might have thought I dreamed it all Fireworks or lightning? You know, I know you saw it, too. Gunfire or thunder, or...? You know, I know you heard it, too. You were standing right beside me or I might have thought I dreamed it all Red and blue police lights II. Dancing in Fire - The Abduction As we rise over the fields past the tree line, then back to the Earth I can see myself from the outside dancing in fire Did we fly? It felt like dream Away up the bluffs and back down to the sand bar I could see your heart from the inside dancing in fire III. Over the Maeystown Road Your brother got the bright idea To go to the river sandbar I grabbed a joint and the last of a six pack In back of his girlfriend’s car Those were not taillights and it wasn’t a cornfield flight Cruising by unidentified up over the Maeystown Road Then, somebody stoked the bonfire sending sparks into our eyes Swirling up and over the levee and out into the sky Those were not taillights and it wasn’t a cornfield flight Cruising by unidentified up over the Maeystown Road IV. Last Flight Out Outside an unfinished window Into a universe expanding Past the cul-de-sacs and cars And brand new backyards Stars Pinholes in the blanket let in light Red and blue police lights Fireworks or lightning? Gunfire or thunder or...?

Today the world was beautiful The breezy fields and summer skies of southern Illinois Carved up by roads and bridges into watercolor shapes In shades of green and blue Cars and deer and trees and red-tailed hawks and planes All breathing in and out Remembering what you said Today the world was beautiful Roaring down the road toward St. Francis in Aviston I try to make connection from my mind up to your soul Floating home on pigeons’ wings while breathing in and out Today the world was beautiful Everyone was gathered there I wandered blind and numb and Tried to find some footing and I finally found your tree Found your stone and then Still somehow made it home In time to see the sunset over your neighbor’s house ...and everything looks different now.

about

Finn's Motel St Louis, Missouri

Finn’s Motel started as the brainchild of Joe Thebeau, a home recording geek. It has evolved into a rock band and production collective, making albums and videos. In the early days, musicians checked in and out of the Motel as needed. But in 2018, the lineup solidified with the addition of Jack Petracek and Scott Roever alongside Steve Scariano, the only other permanent resident of the Motel. ... more
